So today I went to the city.
Cities I said I’d never live.
But I made the most
I watched the people
I felt the summer’s end.
And I could imagine myself tucked away,
in a cosy apartment with linen curtains.
Where the leaves are falling at my window
and birds are perched up on the surface.
And every morning I would walk the same roads
and I’d see the same old churches.
And I’d listen to the man on the corner of my street yell
about God and misfits.
And I’d yearn for a day that was kinder and deeper
as I stared at my new ballet flats.
And I’d lay in the glow of my burnt sienna lampshade
and imagine a life I didn’t have.
